I started reading this book over last week and so far i think Chris is an teen who is different and wanted to leave his family for many reasons that we don't know. My personal reason why he left everything he had, was because he was sick of society and didn't want to deal with his family or school ahead of him. He wanted to see what life would be outside of society. He's a very bright kid who has a good head on his shouders, and some people say he ruined that but others say that he's a hero. I believe both of these theories that he was crazy for doing this, and was not prepared but otherwise he was proving a point that how people are selfish and don't care about others.

Chris is now living on his own now for a while and has been doing well but struggling to find food. He comes across some people he meets on his way to alaska. A guy who teaches him how to carve and to tie leather together. Also he meets a girl and her family. He stays in touch with them, but not with his family. I think he does that because his family only gives and are not caregivers, all they care is about giving to chris want he doesn't want, and not loving and seeing what he wants and actually care for him, and listen to him. Overall he still loves them but doesn't want them to worry about if he's alive or dead, better off just not talking to them at all!

I'm half way through the book and he seems like he's 100% confident in himself and loving life right now! I feel like he's trying to prove a point, that you don't need everythig to be succesful or i just don't know yet. I have mix feelings about him sometimes, thinking that he's an total idiot by going out into the wild by himself leaving everything he had behind. Or that he was brave and trying to make a point. People say that he was a cmplete moron to throw his life away for nothing, but i believe he didn't throw it away for nothing, because he had a plan on traveling around alaska and was going to come back, when he had complished everything. He didn't really have a plan though for himself, going into the wild not knowing what lies ahead of him. Overall I believe he has a good head on his shoulders and knows what he wants otherwise he would of called it quits. On the other hand, i don't know if he will ever go back to civilization and back to his family, which could lead to death or starvation.

I'm almost near the end of the book and i was reading some book reviews on Into the Wild about Chris and his problems. One said that he was insecure about himself and thinks that he knows everything that there is. The author believes that he was doing this to prove a point or to show that he knows everything. (Book Reviews) Chris is trying to make a name form himself or that he's trying to be a hero, by proving what point? The thing I don't understand is that why he would write letters and blog about his days in his little journal. In the book review by John Sisk he talked about how he interviewed Chris's friends, family, and parents. Chris learned new things in a new world and experienced something that some people would love to do, but are not as brave and courageous as he was to leave their family and friends behind forever. He experienced something that had changes him as a person in a positive way, and how others he meet along the way has a big affect on him, and also those you meet or ran into him, changes as well.
Journal Entry # 5
I had finished the book last night and it was a very sad ending, but overall it was a really good book, and i liked it alot! Chris was almost i feel like ready to go home, because he was straving to death. which he ended up doing pretty much. Even though his sister misses him very much so do his parents. At the end they interviewed chris's sister and she had to leave her parents because she was mad at them and partially blamed them for his death, because of the way they treated her and Chris. In the end chris wrote letters to his friends and family, crying for help! while he was dying slowly. I think chris change my perspective on life and how many people take things for granted and are very selfish sometimes. He showed me to be like yourself and try new things in life. Also i think he took it a little far though, leaving his family so long of a time, and I wish he would of have gone back after when Jan had talked to him. I liked the book Into the Wild, because it was a true story, and Jon the author did a good job writing this book about this story this kid had lived and died.
